The Great British Hero Ride
Date: 1st June 2008
Help for Heroes, a charity that raises money to provide support for servicemen and women wounded in war is calling out to the nation to get on their bikes and show support for our heroes by participating in the Great British Hero Ride on the 1st June 2008.
Sunday 1st June will see 300 cyclists arrive in London having completed the Halfords Help for Heroes Bike Ride, a 320-mile ride through the battlefields of northern France.
Riders will be joining an inspirational group of people; the Halfords Help for Heroes Bike Ride includes cyclists from all walks of life. The group is an eclectic mix of servicemen and civilians, of Members of Parliament and war heroes, of lawyers and glamour girls, bankers, students, marines, soldiers, sailors, airmen, doctors and business men, united with one purpose, to raise money for the wounded and to help provide the very best rehabilitation facilities at Headley Court, (a tri-service rehabilitation centre).
The Halfords Help for Heroes Bike Ride will arrive at Whitehall Place at 13.30 and there they will be joined by other groups of riders to form one large ride, the Great British Hero Ride (GBHR) that will ride to the Cenotaph, lay a wreath and then on to Parliament Square before finishing on Horse Guards Parade.
Bryn Parry, founder of Help for Heroes said: "It would be wonderful if people could organise rides from John O?Groats and Lands End as well as from Anglesey or Ipswich, but we are equally happy if you want to join us from Middle Wallop or Wapping. The important part of this is the taking part and showing you really care for our servicemen and women; that you care enough to make the effort to do your bit on a bike. Please take this as a call to arms, get on your bike, form a team, plan a route, get training and raise a great deal of money for Help for Heroes. The total numbers of riders we can accept is strictly limited to 3000 so it is vital that you register yourself or your group now."
With only just over a month to go, people should register now on the website www.helpforheroes.org.uk as soon as possible as places are strictly limited to 3000 and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
