Cyclists challenged to cycle for safer roads
Cycling enthusiasts have been challenged to cycle from London to Paris by Brake, the national road safety charity.
This 450km epic trip will test cyclists' endurance and take them on the challenge of a lifetime to raise much needed funds for the charity.
Cycling through beautiful English villages and into the stunning countryside of rural France participants will pass historical landmarks and famous battlefields from World War I before reaching Paris, undoubtedly one of the most magical cities on earth.
In 2006 there were 147 cyclist deaths on UK roads. Every penny raised will go towards Brake's work to prevent death and injury on UK roads and to support people who have been bereaved or injured by a road crash. As well as working to make our roads safer for everyone, Brake is the national provider of support for families affected by road crashes, offering a helpline (0845 603 8570) and care literature. Go to www.brake.org.uk for more information.
Brake has spaces on three trips taking place throughout the summer (11th - 15th June, 2nd - 6th July and 10th - 14th September). Participants are asked to raise £1,200 in sponsorship which covers travel by Ferry to France and return travel to London on Eurostar, accommodation, all meals (excluding dinner on the ferry on day 1 and lunch and dinner on day 5), mechanics, guides and medical support. To take part in the cycle ride, or find out about other ways of supporting Brake, call Lisa Kendall on 01484 683294 or email lisa.kendall2@virgin.net.
Russ Moggridge, cyclist from Carlsberg UK, who cycled the route for Brake in 2007, says: "I am still running on adrenalin- it was wonderful! A real challenge, but definitely worth the effort. Helping to raise money for such a worthwhile charity and making great friends along the way really added to the whole adventure. I would definitely recommend it."
Chris Frost, marketing officer at Brake says: "The sense of achievement you'll experience taking part in this ride will be one you'll treasure forever. Brake works tirelessly to prevent death and injury on the road and we hope that many cyclists will really get behind this event to support us in our work."
