Date: 20th/21st September 2008

20080920_cheddar_sportiveThe cycling event, now in its second year was created by David Moore (Broadway House) and Paul Baker (Cheddar Cycle Store)

The event has been elongated this year to allow riders to complete up to 270k of visually spectacular, heart pumping, hill climbing, speedy descending mendip road cycling action.

The first day brings a new 110k route over the mendips selected by the locals who love to ride it. Distinctive Mendip countryside to enjoy with some tough testing climbs.

The second day (Sunday 21st) route remains practically the same with memories of an initially flat first 100k follow by 60k of serious Mendip climbs and descents.

Paul Baker has designed a route that gives the rider an opportunity to "bail" after the first 100k circuit or to continue the second circuit of 60k. The first 100k is relatively flat with a few "tasters" but the second 60k is about maximum output with searing climbs and fast descents, no cheesy capers at Cheddar.

Broadway House is no stranger to major biking fixtures. Cheddar is the spiritual home of mountain biking with an unmatched pedigree. It is our intention that this event shall live up to those expectations. If so, and it is a success, this will provide a sustainable foundation on which the event can grow for the future.

The usual route map, medical cover, parking, feed stops, electronic timing, and insurance will be provided. Details about the route will be posted on the event website (see link below) including total altitude, difficulty rating and max gradient. It is our intention to make this a memorable ride that is why this year we are limiting the number of riders. That way each year we will get better.
