Holme Valley 100 Sportiv
Event Date: 26th August 2007
The Holme Valley Wheelers, based in Last of The Summer Wine country are raising the stakes with a tough '100' Sportiv on Sunday August 26th. The ride takes in most of the major and minor climbs in the Pennine Chain around West and South Yorkshire. “Its a tough and technical ride”, says organiser Mark Wilcox. “Last year we ran a 50 which proved popular. We decided to stretch the event to a full day out with a built in option to do a 60.”
The route takes in the well known climbs of Holme Moss, Woodhouse (local hill climb) and the National Championship course at Jackson Bridge, plus a handful of lesser known lung busters. The 100 has approximately 8700 ft (2650m) of assents, while the 60 takes in 5760ft (1755m).
Like last year the event will raise money for the British Lung Foundation, an excellent charity for cyclists, supporting clean air and tackling lung diseases. A smaller percentage of the money will go to support Holme Valley Wheelers Youth Development. The club has a long history of developing riders with Eddie Clancy being one of our more recent successes.
Entries are limited to 400 @£15. Details can be found on line at
