The Discover Rutland CiCLE Tour
Date: 25 April 2009
The Rutland Tour has three distances, 100 miles, 50 miles and a 30km family ride. This event is run in conjunction with the International CiCLE Classic race the following day. This is the biggest one-day race in the UK, so why not stay over after riding the cyclo-sportive and enjoy the racing the following morning. The sportive does not take place on the same roads as the race, as the race covers many tracks not accessible outside of the race.
The 100 mile challenge covers terrain typical of Rutland and East Leicestershire; steep, short climbs that come thick and fast on quiet lanes through picturesque villages. The course is deliberately designed to get harder as it progresses, so don't be fooled by the relatively easy start out of Oakham.
There will be 3 manned feedstations on the route and mechanical support provided by Rutland Water Cycles. There will also be a Recovery Area at the finish, featuring recovery drink from a leading manufacturer, the opportunity to have a post ride sports massage and hot food cooked fresh on the day. The Recovery Area food and services will not be free but will be provided by local community groups who will be keeping all of their proceeds for their local causes and activities. As a local college is hosting the event there will be an opportunity to shower and change after the event.
The family ride is 30km over gentle terrain and will benefit from all of the features that accompany the longer rides.
