East Sussex County Council, in conjunction with Transport for London and other partners, are currently working on the Avenue Verte, a permanent cycle route linking the iconic capital cities of London and Paris. It is hoped that the route will be completed in time for the London Olympics in 2012. The Avenue Verte is part of the Franco British Cycle Plan, which also includes the Tour de la Manche, a joint British and French coastal route.

In East Sussex, the route will use much of the existing NCN provision, linking with the Cuckoo and Forest trails, before heading for the coast and a ferry link from Newhaven.

Once on the other side of the channel at Dieppe, the route is proposed to follow the Dieppe-Paris canal into the French capital.
