Organisers of the Cheshire Cat cyclosportive (30th March) have put measures in place to cater for more participants than the anticipated entry. Already 500 entries have been received since opening just before Christmas - more than last years total entries. As well as on the day, pre-entered riders will be able to sign-on at Knutsford Leisure Centre on the Saturday afternoon before.
This year "The Cat" gets UCI status - so expect great organisation for the first UCI listed cyclosportive in the north of the England.
Many of last year's riders have entered again and look forward to the challenge of the infamous 1 in 4 Mow Cop- a Cycling Weekly 'killer climb' on the Staffordshire-Cheshire border - which nearly a third of riders stopped on or walked up in last year's fine dry spring weather. This year every rider who doesn't walk, stop or put a foot to the ground gets a special award.
Kilotogo say riders shouldn't be put off by Mow Cop's 1 in 4 gradient - the reputation of which now exceeds it's difficulty, according to kilotogo: "With two route options, the Cheshire Cat is indeed a challenging ride in rural Cheshire; but caters for a wide range of abilities. The short option misses Mow Cop, Blacky Bank and Bridestones. We avoided putting in too many tough hills - after all it's March and it's almost 100 miles if you choose the long route" said Geoff Saxon of kilotogo.
This year the ride is run in support of St John's Ambulance, Staffordshire region, which has recently launched its Cycle Response Unit (CRU).
