Sun Smiles on Pendle

This year’s Pendle Pedal was accompanied by 27 degree temperatures and bright sunshine, which made the most of the spectacular scenery and made the already difficult climbs even more challenging. Everyday Cycling tackled the 100km Midi route, which took riders out of Colne, up the back of Pendle Hill before dropping down the other side to fantastic views of the Ribble Valley and the Yorkshire Dales. The route then crossed toward the Bowland fells, first climbing Waddington Fell before looping through the Hodder Valley, Longridge Fell and back through Clitheroe. The route was topped off with a fine final section, first tackling the challenging Nick O’ Pendle, then climbing out of the the village of Sabden onto the long undulating ridge back to Colne, using a different but no less challenging climb that had a few riders walking! The longer route looped out further north tacking in more Forest of Bowland classics, including the infamous Trough of Bowland climb.
Over 400 riders took part in both the 100km and monster 160km routes. Support and signage were top class, with much improved feed stations compared with last year’s event.
