We like the strange and the beautiful here at Everyday Cycling and Jens Eichler's beechwood tandem creation certainly has both characteristics in equal measure.

Whittled from beech plywood, glued and then laboriously shaped into organic flights of fancy, the beechwood tandem is truly a sight to behold, as well as being a fully functional machine.

Wood, of course, is nothing new in the world of bike manufacture - early rims were wood and there are a number of manufacturers making mudguards and trailers from good old tree.

Jens is a wood artist and designer from Germany whose other projects include furniture, children's play equipment and erm, longbows...
