Raleigh Cycles have long been associated with Nottingham and their products exported around the world. From their humble beginnings on Raleigh Street to the creation of a global empire, Raleigh became a household name. The creation of the 'All-Steel Bicycle', the incorporation of 3-speed gears and the success of champion cyclists like Reg Harris, all contributed to the company's success. In more recent years, Raleigh has become famous for its iconic and much loved cycles such as the Chopper and BMX.
But Raleigh was more than just bicycles. The company was a pioneer of staff welfare, and had a thriving social and sporting scene for employees. A major employer in Nottingham, its factories and offices dominated Lenton. Part of the original site has now been replaced by Nottingham University's new Jubilee Campus.
This exhibition draws chiefly upon the archives of the Raleigh Cycle Company (now TI Raleigh Industries) held at Nottinghamshire Archives.
