Pedalite Pedals: Long Term Review

Back in Oct 2007 we got a set of Pedalite kinetic LED pedals on test. Check out how they have weathered the winter.
The Pedalite concept is a big flat and grippy commuter pedal with a built in generator which powers flashing white and red LEDs which come on when you start pedalling and carry on flashing for a good few minutes when you stop.

6 Months On?
One long and thoroughly miserable winter on with 6 months of daily commuting in all weathers, jet washing and general abuse has had absolutely no effect on the hardy Pedalites. They look as good as the day I spannered them on to my commuter bike and have worked faultlessly. Wherever I go they cause people to stop and stare. Motorists seem to give me a wide berth as they pass in the dark and small children shout things like 'check out his pedals' or more memorably and poetically- 'he's got lightning coming from his feet.' (I took this as a complement to my high cadence riding style).
Downsides? Depending on your level of bike snobbery, the only negative is the way the pedals look. Outwardly, they look like low-end resin pedals that you get on entry level bikes. But you're never going to look like a pro with flashing LED commuter pedals now are you? And there's nothing low end about the construction. Bearings are smooth, the casing is bombproof and the internals are very well sealed from the elements.
Verdict:
After 6 months of hard use, they are still going strong. If you've read this far, you need to buy some.
