Algarve: A Great Cycling Holiday Venue.

20080611_algarve_leaflets_250Thousands of UK cyclists travel overseas for 'out of season' holidays, every year. However, there's a little-heralded venue which comes highly recommended by Peter Ward, a former cycling international, namely the South West Algarve.

Offering easy access, great weather and well-surfaced, quiet country roads, it's a venue very familiar to Peter and his wife Nora. They frequently, 'break the back of winter,' cycling out there and when they recommend it ahead of other areas, they speak from experience, having cycled in many countries.

For them, this area is the best and the also believe that non cycling family and friends will also enjoy this fine holiday area with its many small, picturesque, seaside resorts and small towns and villages.

Inspired by his own experience, Peter decided to encourage more cyclists get away, from our cold wet seasons, and holiday in this scenic area and with the help of friends in cycling, and consultation with the local Tourist Board, he designed and produced three, informative, colour cycling route cards of the area. These illustrated cards cover 21 different routes with different terrain and distances.

These holiday routes are designed to cater all kinds of cyclists, from the short distance leisure route through to those seeking longer more challenging rides. The cards help riders get the best out of their holiday, find the best rides which suit their ability and enjoy great scenic routes without getting lost. Portugal does not signpost many country roads and some good scenic routes lie relatively undiscovered.
