The 5th anniversary Dragon Ride Wales rolls out of the gates of its all new Bridgend start venue at Pencoed College and out into the Brecon Beacons this Sunday, 15th June. Although online entries are now closed, there is still the opportunity to reserve places on a first come first served basis to take part in one of the most stunningly beautiful rides available in Britain.
With 3000 places on offer this year 2766 have already been filled. The remaining 234 places will be available this Saturday by arriving in person to enter.
There are two routes available, 120km and 200km ? both achievable by anyone who has cycled consistently in training for the last 6-8 weeks. The 120km route in particular has no severe climbs, with gentle gradients and lots of wonderful long descents to enjoy.
The Dragon Ride Wales continues to grow in stature and international appeal. This year there are a whole raft of nations taking part including; 21 South African riders entered, 34 Australians, 24 Irish, 21 New Zealanders, 18 Americans, 17 Germans, 8 Italians, 6 French, 5 Dutch, 4 Spanish, 3 Canadian and Japanese, 2 Estonians and Norwegians, and one each from Austria, Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, Denmark, Finland, Mexico, Peru, Poland, Sweden and the Philippines.
While the riders take on their own personal challenges through the roads of South Wales there will be a host of activities on the day for non-riding companions including an indoor climbing wall and Ray Mears style Bushcraft displays.
Hungry appetites for riders and family alike will be well catered for with retail food outlets including organic savouries, Dutch pancakes and of course? Italian style coffee...what else?!
Also at the event are sponsors High5, cycle spares and accessories by Reg Braddicks of Cardiff and Dragon Ride cycling jerseys and T shirts from Onimpex as well as a chance to get a look at sponsors Museeuw Bikes ultra rare Flax/Carbon road bikes and the latest Bioracer and Vittoria kit.
Car parking is on a nearby tarmac business park site, 500m from the start arena with excellent access to and from the college site.
