20080225_7stanes_glentress_200x200A group of young mountain bikers got their gloves on for a litter pick at Glentress this weekend (Saturday 21 June) - and filled a pick up truck in only one hour!

The 20 volunteers aged 6 to 17 - from Peebles Cycle Club's Kids Club set to work clearing up the freeride area at Glentress.

Disappointed that their Saturday morning fun was spoiled by litter left lying around, the group contacted the local Forestry Commission Scotland team with the idea of organising a litter pick.

Andy Weir, for the Commission at Glentress, said: "This was a fantastic effort by the Kids Club and we were happy to help out by providing, gloves, bags and our 7Stanes pick-up truck. The litter pick has made a huge difference to the site - and everyone who comes here has noticed the improvement. It's a minority of people who are responsible for the littering so hopefully they will now dispose of litter properly or take it home."

The litter pick won the support of other riders, who were happy to wait for the area to be re-opened once the group had finished their work.

The morning was a great success - but everyone hopes it never has to happen again!
