Car free living has gotten a whole lot easier since the beginning of the longbike revolution, which commenced with the Xtracycle and was followed by models from Surly, Kona and others (Gary Fisher has also recently unveiled it's own longbike concept).
However, an American family have taken the longbike to whole new levels, producing a vehicle that, for them, totally replaces the car. Based on the Surly Big Dummy, they've created The American Moederfiets (mother bike).
With lots of marine plywood, webbing, foam and not a small amount of skill and ingenuity, the family have created the ultimate sport utility vehicle. Check out their blog and get inspired.
