At Trek World '09, a recent 'backstage' expo, the American bike giant has produced a few interesting new bikes, notably a belt-drive version of their popular Soho commuter model.
Belt drive systems are nothing new and offer plenty of advantages for commuter bikes - they're quiet, clean, virtually maintenance free and incredibly durable.
Toothed belt drives are used in high stress environments such as car engines, lasting for tens of thousands of miles, so the humble demands of the bike shouldn't trouble their longevity.
You can take a look at this and other new models, plus concept machines by Trek and Gary Fisher at Bicycle Design's excellent blogspot.
