20080807_jubilee_river_map_150Sustainable transport charity Sustrans, in partnership with Slough Borough Council, has just released the Jubilee River & Slough Linear Park cycle map.

This free colour map shows some of the best cycling and walking routes around Slough, Maidenhead and Windsor and is jam-packed with useful information on attractions you can visit along the way, places to hire bikes and even a local group that'll take you out for a guided ride. Pubs and cafes are also marked on the map to help you plan those all important refreshment stops.

'The Jubilee River & Slough Linear Park cycle map' has been produced by sustainable transport charity Sustrans in partnership with Slough Borough Council and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. The free map is available from council offices, Tourist Information Centres and local bike shops. It can also be downloaded from the Sustrans website or by calling the Information Line on 0845 113 00 65.

The routes in the area are mainly flat and traffic-free and are perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll, a leisurely ride or as part of a healthy commute to work. They cross farmland, woodland and open pasture and pass natural habitats like the specially created breeding ground for birds at Dorney Wetlands next to the Jubilee River.

Other highlights on the map include Dorney Lake Park near Windsor, a route through Slough Linear Park green corridor and Ditton Park - formerly the home of Lord Montagu, now the European headquarters of IT company CA (previously known as Computer Associates).

Peter Challis, Sustrans' Area Manager for the Thames Valley, said: "This fantastic new free map is an excellent guide to the cycling and walking routes in our area and shows just how easy it is to explore the countryside on our doorsteps by bike and on foot."

The main routes on 'The Jubilee River & Slough Linear Park cycle map' are all part of the National Cycle Network which now runs within one mile of 55 per cent of the UK population. Over 354 million trips were made on the Network last year.
