MTB Routes: Ride the Hiraethog
Posted: 28th January 2009
While the trail centres of Coed y Brenin, Marin Trail and Llandegla draw in the big crowds for simple point and shoot days out, there's a whole world of trails in North Wales to satisfy the more wilderness oriented rider. Somewhere inbetween sits the Ride the Hiraethog project, which aims to provide oven ready rides with a wilderness feel.
Ride the Hiraethog comes from the same stable as the successful Ride the Clwyds site, and like its Clwydian counterpart, has a range of 6 routes suitable from beginner to expert, with route cards, 3D fly-throughs and downloadable tracklogs for each route, all free to grab from the excellent, clearly laid out site, http://www.ridehiraethog.com/
We particularly like the look of the 'Lake and a bit' ride, which at 32km looks like a fine day out in a relatively overlooked part of Wales. The route has lakeside trails, forests, nature reserves and 1500 feet of climbing. At 3.5 hours, its within most people's compass yet challenging enough for the fittest riders.
