Everyday Cycling Community is Here!

Posted: 9 July 2008

20080709_apollo_launch_250It's been long wait and a whole heap of late nights, but Everyday Cycling Community has finally arrived.

Everyday Cycling Community does everything that the current site does plus a whole lot more. Now you can:

  • Create your own profile
  • Find Friends
  • Blog and Discuss, including pics and video
  • Create groups, bringing together people with similar interests
  • Upload your bikes
  • Send Personal Messages to friends
  • Archive News, Events and Routes from Everyday Cycling
  • Check out the Activity Log and Rankings (you need to be a Member to be viewable in the rankings)
  • Set Personal and Group Challenges

For a full rundown of what you can do with the new and improved site, click here >  10 things to do on Everyday Cycling

20080711_community_graphic_250What's changed?

The eagle eyed amongst you will already have noticed the change in the left hand panel of the site plus some changes to the My Everyday Cycling menu, giving you access to the Community area. If you are not logged in, what you'll see is the What's Going On section, which dynamically details new groups and discussions. Clicking on any of the What's Going On links will transport you into the community where you can browse around, find friends and begin to get stuck in. You'll only be able to interact with other users if you log in (using your usual log-in), whereupon you'll be taken to your own profile page, where you can begin to create your profile and interact.

You'll also see the Friends and Groups navigation on the left, plus the What's Going On section, which constantly updates with new blogs, discussions and groups. This left hand navigation will remain there no matter where you go on the site, allowing you to quickly dip back into your profile, friends and groups when you're browsing news, events and other content.

Under 18s

Sorry, but many of the interactivity features of the site are disabled for under 18s, in order to safeguard young people. You can still create your own profile, blog and add your bikes, but you'll only be able to fully interact with other users when you become 18.

Privacy

When you are creating your profile or adding any content, you will have various options to make your content private or shared, ensuring that you can control your level of privacy on the site.

Bugs!

The site is currently in 'beta' or 'test' mode so there may still be some bugs, inconsistencies or cul-de-sacs here and there, but hopefully not too many. What we'd like to do is give our existing site users to opportunity to contribute to the final phase of development and help optimise the site.

Reporting Inappropriate Content

If you see some content you think is inappropriate or concerns you, simply report it to us using one of the "Report" buttons spread around the community - we'll have a look at it and remove it if we think it's not suitable for the site.

How to report a fault

As we said before, the site is still in 'beta' or 'test' mode, meaning were still thrashing the last few bugs and foibles out of it. This is only really possible when a large number of people are using it, so your help here is invaluable.

If you find a bug, contact us on info@everydaycycling.com with the words 'Everyday Beta' in the Subject line. Try to detail where and when the error occurred and if you can, take a screen grab of the error.

How to take a screen grab:

  1. With the error on your screen, press the 'Print Screen' key (usually at the top right of your keyboard next to the function keys)
  2. Open any image editing software (e.g. Photoshop, Irfanview, Microsoft Paint)
  3. Paste the screen grab in (either using Edit > Paste in the menu or by using CTRL+V)
  4. Save the file and attach to the email that you send to us.

Tell us what you think!

If you've got more general comments about the site or suggestions for further toys and add-ons, please let us know, because we're keen as mustard to make the Community the place for cyclists to come and hang out (when you're not riding your bikes, of course!). Send your comments to info@everydaycycling.com with 'Everyday Community Feedback' in the Subject line.

Anyway, enough from us, start creating your profile now!
