British Cycling has seen a huge increase in the number of events registered on its Everyday Cycling database, and as a result is now able to reduce costs to organisers using the online entry system. 2008 is shaping up to be a fantastic year of cycling, with more non-competitive events than ever available for cyclists of all levels.

Through Everyday Cycling organisers can access a range of benefits, including the electronic entry system, an industry leading & proven insurance package and assistance with event promotion and co-ordination. Organisers can use the new online tool kit to establish a web presence on Britain's most visited cycling web sites, www.britishcycling.org.uk and www.everydaycycling.com.

Andy Cook, Everyday Cycling Events Manager commented: "We're delighted with this increase in the number of events registered so far this year. To see registrations increase year on year is a clear signal that our ongoing consultation and action is proving invaluable to event organisers."

"As the National Governing Body for the sport we see it as paramount to ensure that organisers are supported and that recreational cyclists have the opportunity to enjoy high quality events, whatever their level. Participation in cycling events needs to be sustainable. Our aim is to ensure that more people take part, and that they have a good experience that makes them want to come back and participate in more events, especially those new to cycling"

"The online entry system is an obvious attraction for organisers, and we've managed to reduce the costs this year simply through the volume of people we now have registering. The insurance package is a fantastic offer that has a proven track record of serving cyclists for many years. The online entry system is very intuitive; organisers can use it for all sorts of data capture, depending on their specific needs."

"And, the good news is that we are continually adding more content to the site which has a new contemporary look & feel to it as well as new functionality over the next few weeks."

In order to further support event organisers, British Cycling has also set up a non-competitive events commission, this soon to be expanded group of experts will help maintain and create standards and contribute towards strategy in this area of cycle sport embraced by British Cycling, the internationally recognised governing body for cycling in the UK.

This commission is currently made up of the following members:

  • Geoff Saxon - Cheshire Cat and North Cornwall Tor
  • Phil Weaver - Autumn Epic and several mountain bike events
  • Nick Bourne - Tour of Wessex
  • Peter Harrison - Northern Rock Cyclone
  • Bill Owen - Iron Mountain
  • Lou Lusardi - Dragon Ride

Everyday Cycling is assisting event organisers in many ways including:

  • Access to a tried and tested online entry system, which is being used for events such as the White Rose Classic and the Dragon Ride.
  • Assistance with event promotion through the websites, event calendars, event previews & reporting
  • Web resources that support relationships with media
  • Organisers can take advantage of the tried and tested, peerless, event insurance package
  • Assistance with safety issues and event planning
  • Access for all users to find out about routes and rides in their area and how to get the most of out cycling
